Tetra Tech, in association with Lavallee Brensinger Architects, designed a single facility, which combines all the existing buildings under one roof.
The existing campus is made up of separate buildings with separate functions. This separation forces the residents to walk outside to the different buildings, compromising security and ease of commuting.
The resulting design is a 100,00 square foot facility that must address issues of security for both the occupants and the surrounding community, while being aesthetically sensitive to it's context. Within the building are administration office; staff areas; a complete educational wing, including staff offices and vocational training center; a medical center; food service/dining; and housing units totaling 144 beds.
The school and administration section of the building is treated to give the appearance of a school from the exterior. The resident units are designed to reflect their residential use and to compliment the housing it faces in the community. The housing units are arranged around a courtyard which is connected to the main school building by a glassed corridor.
Many of the spaces of the facility open onto courtyards. This provides the occupants with a feeling of openness without compromising security.
