A new semicircular brick and granite entry plaza and landscape were installed to provide an entry and gathering space for the remodeled Administrationistration building.
Highlights:A new entry plaza was designed to work in context with the existing Administrationistration building, which has a brick facade. The front facade has had some renovation, and the new plaza provides a semicircular form receptive to the feeling of the entry and in scale with the building. Sitting-height walls define the curved from and are constructed of iridian granite. The tops of the walls are polished granite with flame finished faces.
The paving plaza is designed for durability, and has curved bands of iridian granite echoing the walls with brick infill. The brick pavers are in running bond with a stacked bond edge adjacent to the granite bands. The pavers also have a range of red blended to complement the color of the building.
Brick walks, in a radial pattern, connect the plaza and link to the building entrance, visitor parking, and the existing walk system. A new handicap accessible ramp echoes the curved form of the plaza and connected the handicap visitor parking spaces to the main building entrance.
Lighting is built into the seating-height walls and illuminates the plaza at night. These lights supplement the existing 14' walkway lights already existing on the site. New plantings of pink flowering Crab Apples add vertical definition to the plaza and Sugar Maples were added for fall interest and balance. Additionally, spreading English Yews act as a ground cover in the sitting area toward the street and other curved walls, and some Myrtle is planted adjacent to the building, along with some foundation plantings.
