Tetra Tech designed a 13,584 sf C -17 Flight Simulator Training Facility for the Dover Air Force Base. The facility is a steel-frame, high bay structure with reinforced concrete foundation and floor slab, metal stud walls/finish system, electrical, mechanical, communications, fire protection and detection systems, site improvements, vehicle parking and all other necessary support. The design included anti-terrorism/force protection physical security. Structural Interior Design and Comprehensive Interior Design services were also included.
Integrated into the design were three items to support new mission training directives for Flight Simulator Facilities: Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer, Distributive Mission Operations box, and the requirement for a Classified Security area. These three requirements are in support of the pilots and load masters training with classified scenarios. Integration of the directives requires the building to accommodate both secured and non-secured areas.
The drawings were prepared in AutoCAD format, the specifications using SpecsIntact, and cost estimates using U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Micro Computer Aided Cost Engineering System (MCACES-GOLD).
