Tetra Tech Architects & Engineers won a design competition for site planning and architectural renovations to the Veteran’s Plaza at the Suffolk County Community College. The 4.6-acre plaza, located in the campus quadrangle, is surrounded by academic buildings on all sides. The scope of work for this memorial plaza included the architectural re-design of building entryways, the incorporation of a memorial clocktower and fountains, as well as plantings, landscaping, and pedestrian circulation.
Our plan, entitled “It’s Time to Remember”, represents a process of discovering, revealing and creating a new functional space. This is accomplished through expanding the veterans theme of the quadrangle and infusing the site with meaning - a conduit for interactive thinking, learning, contemplation and reflection.
Pedestrian walks throughout the site are based on a hierarchial system with varying widths and materials. In adjacent areas, landscape plantings will be installed in specific locations in order to define and order the outdoor space.
