North Rockland CSD
Fieldstone Secondary School

Tetra Tech Architects & Engineers has been working with the North Rockland CSD for over 20 years on various projects throughout the District. One of our most recent projects was the development of the Fieldstone Secondary School housing 1,400 8th and 9th Grade students.

The Fieldstone School is a good example of adaptive reuse, as existing 1920's stone cottages of the former Letchworth Village Developmental Center were renovated and connected to create the new school. The project consisted of 50,000sf alterations and 150,000sf additions using indigenous building materials to maintain the historic integrity of the facility and grounds. Also, the use of warm colors and natural light from skylights and single loaded corridors create a bright, cheerful learning environment. The facility design is based on two houses (one for 8th graders, one for 9th graders) with six teams at each house.
