Biotechnology High School - Tetra Tech Architect & Engineers began this project by assisting the District with intensive curriculum research to identify college level and professional business facilities to use as a basis to model this exciting new Biotechnology School. The innovative program helped shape the high-performance design seen throughout this 77,000sf 280-student facility. The structure, oriented on the 59-acre site to minimize the need for mechanical heating and cooling, carefully manages solar heat gains and day lighting, and by using landscape topography and plantings to provide the optimum microclimate and manage storm water runoff, the site design reduces the building's initial impact on its environment and reduces annual operating costs.
Communications High School - Tetra Tech worked with the District to develop the former Electrical and Plumbing Trades Vocational Building into a new high school. A phased schedule allowed half of the existing building to remain open during the construction of the 45,000sf addition. Through intensive program research, Tetra Tech enhanced the educational program by designing flexible and unique spaces. A large common area functions as a cafeteria and an interactive student center. Lab spaces are located along the main corridor of the facility, where a visual connection through window walls is created to enhance the interaction between students and visitors.
